This is an Electronics Construction Project introducing the Student to the use of MicroControllers in the automated data collection of Voltage and Amperage Measurements of a 12 volt battery used in Electrathon Racing. Subsequently the measurements are used in Excel to generate linear discharge curves (Models) useful in optimizing the performance of an Electrathon.
This course begins by introducing the innate properties of objects in their environment like length, mass and temperature, which at first may appear abstract and unrelated to the course but serves to underpin a simple and solid mathemical foundation for the course. The course then progresses to a discussion of some elementary Physics Concepts which are subsequently applied to developing an understanding of basic Electric Circuit Concepts necessary in the design and construction of the Test Circuit. The student will learn to program and interface a microcontroller with a variety of simple electronic components such as transistors and relays. The student will learn to solder, use a digital multimeter and a variety of hand tools used in simple point to point wiring in electronic assembly.
