\"Checkered<\/a><\/p>\n

The first cool race day of the year is in the books.<\/p>\n

12 cars took the green flag for both races on the 1\/4 mile track\u00a0with some of the closest finishes ever in the series.<\/p>\n

Racing on a 1\/4 mile track allowed the teams to really see how the cars would do in a true time trial setting.\u00a0Aerodynamics, gear ratios, battery life\/conservation, steady speed and steering\u00a0all come into play<\/strong>.\u00a0 Much more so than on a road course where the cars are constantly slowing down and speeding up. \u00a0In the High School class the winner was driving a car with the\u00a0aerodynamics\u00a0of a brick and was 26 laps behind the Open Class winner and 32 laps behind the EX battery winner.\u00a0 All but the EX battery winner were using the same type batteries.\u00a0 AERODYNAMICS<\/strong> was a BIG factor.<\/p>\n

\"Robinson\"Simmons<\/a><\/p>\n

In the 1st race\u00a0of\u00a0the High School Class, the\u00a0Simmons #60 car\u00a0and the\u00a0Middleton #80 car had the same lap count with\u00a080 laps on the 1\/4 mile track.\u00a0 Simmons took 1st by mere seconds.\u00a0 In the second race Simmons beat Middleton again, this time by 2 laps.\u00a0 TBT was late starting the race when they had a brake lock up on the way to the start line otherwise they would have been in the mix for 1st.<\/p>\n

In the second race Simmons and TBT went at it with both cars finishing with 83 laps each.\u00a0 Simmons took 1st again this time by 32 sec.<\/p>\n

In the Open Class USF, driving their new car for the second race, missed 3rd place by 5 sec. to Rodney in the\u00a0Tiger Racing #4 car.<\/p>\n

In the first Open Class race, 1st and 2nd had a 2 sec. gap.\u00a0 The Robinson Racing #13 and #94 cars\u00a0drafted each other\u00a0 for most of the race with the dad, in the\u00a094 car,\u00a0beating\u00a0son in the #13.<\/p>\n

In the second race the Robinson Racing #13 car took 1st again when the #94 car withdrew with it second blown tire of the race.\u00a0 Tiger\u00a0Racing took 3rd when he had to slow down towards the end of the race in order to preserve a tire that was looking like it wanted to come apart.\u00a0 At the end of the race the tire looked like it was holding on by a thread or two. \u00a0That left\u00a0the door open for USF to come in 2d in the race and second overall in the Open Class.\u00a0 USF ran a strong, smooth and\u00a0uneventful race\u00a0which is just how it should go but rarely does.<\/p>\n

In the Experimental Battery Class (EX)\u00a0Cliff from ProEV #39 car out of Miami was unopposed and had a track high 195 laps for the day.\u00a0 I think he scared off the other EX Battery Class cars.\u00a0 There was a rumor that the other drivers had to work.\u00a0 Work should never get in the way of racing.\u00a0 Ha….<\/p>\n

1st Simmons #60\u00a0163 laps,\u00a0 2nd Middleton #80 161 laps, 3rd\u00a0\u00a0TBT # 242\u00a0156 laps, 4th Brandon #9 149 laps, 5th Wharton #58\u00a0138 laps, 6th Brandon #14 129 laps, 7th Middleton #133 125 laps.<\/p>\n

Open Class results for two races<\/p>\n

1st Robinson Racing #13\u00a0189 laps, 2nd USF #132 183 laps, 3rd Tiger Racing #4\u00a0181 laps, 4th Robinson Racing #94 127 laps<\/p>\n

Thanks to the Middleton team for putting on a great race and for the food and goodies provided.\u00a0 It made for a great day of racing.<\/p>\n

In the pits during the day teams were seen\u00a0helping each other and loaning batteries and wheels etc.\u00a0 True sportsmanship on display for this race and every race.<\/p>\n
