{"id":3201,"date":"2017-01-17T21:29:02","date_gmt":"2017-01-18T01:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/electrathonoftampabay.org\/www\/?p=3201"},"modified":"2017-02-06T21:40:31","modified_gmt":"2017-02-07T01:40:31","slug":"1st-race-of-2017-in-the-books-at-wharton-high-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/electrathonoftampabay.org\/www\/?p=3201","title":{"rendered":"1st Race of 2017 in the Books at Wharton High School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QOhMsCAB-7k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Visit the Photo Album for Wharton Race at: (Copy and paste link into Browser) https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/132647601@N06\/albums\/72157675532300803<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What a day and what a race.\u00a0 The course was one of the\u00a0best we have been on in a while.\u00a0 14 cars battled for 2 hours of racing and in the Experimental Battery Class the margin of victory was a whopping 1400ft.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wharton High School did an outstanding job putting on the races and had their BBQ grill working overtime between the races.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the\u00a0High School Class we want to give a shout out to Palm Bay Magnet High School.\u00a0 They are over on the east coast, south of Cocoa Beach.\u00a0 They took a third place\u00a0finish in the second race.\u00a0 They are still working the bugs out of their\u00a0car and will be a contender in\u00a0the near future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were some close finishes in the High School class.\u00a0 In the first race the Middleton High School #80 car and #365 finished 1st and 2nd\u00a0with the #80 finishing 4 seconds ahead after 1 hour.\u00a0 In the second race it was the Brandon #14 car beating out the Middleton #80 car by .47 seconds\u00a0over the one hour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0Open Class was a lonely place with only the #04 car of Tiger Racing running.\u00a0 We missed the HCC and Robinson Racing cars this race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the Experimental Battery Class it was a tight race all day with Cliff from ProEv taking\u00a0the day\u00a0with a total of 159 laps over the Electrocutioners #08 &amp; 72 cars with 158 each.\u00a0 Cliff has always had a\u00a0VERY fast car but\u00a0in the past has been plagued by mechanical problems and wearing out the tires on his car.\u00a0 Today it all came together and he ran two trouble free races,\u00a0except for trading paint once during the race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We were glad to see Slam make it back on the track to round out the three car Electrocutioners team.\u00a0 Something about he had to work all those past race days.\u00a0 His new #90 car, which was late starting the first race and\u00a0was on a shakedown run.\u00a0 It\u00a0was very fast and was the best looking of the field.\u00a0 If he doesn&#8217;t have to work next month watch out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Can&#8217;t wait to see what Drew Jet has to show from his fancy drone he was using at the race.\u00a0 He has the coolest toys.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We hope to see Strawberry Crest, Wharton, Jefferson, Plant, Foundation\u00a0and our other Open Class cars for the BIG RACE at University of South Florida in February<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">OVERALL STATS:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">OPEN CLASS:\u00a0 <strong>1st<\/strong> Place #04 Tiger Racing 145 laps<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EXPERIMENTAL BATTERY CLASS:\u00a0 <strong>1st<\/strong> #39 ProEv with 159 laps,\u00a0 <strong>2nd<\/strong> #08 with 158 laps,\u00a0 <strong>3rd<\/strong> #72 with 158 laps,\u00a0<strong> 4th<\/strong> #90 with 146 laps, <strong>5th<\/strong> #132 with 41 laps.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">HIGH SCHOOL CLASS:\u00a0 <strong>1st<\/strong> #80 with 138 laps, \u00a0<strong>2nd<\/strong> #365 with 130 laps,<strong>\u00a0 3rd<\/strong> #14 with 123 laps,\u00a0 <strong>4th<\/strong> #101 with 97 laps, \u00a0<strong>5th<\/strong> #133 with 93 laps,\u00a0 <strong>6th<\/strong> #09 with 67 laps,\u00a0 <strong>7th<\/strong> #86 with 39 laps,\u00a0 <strong>8th<\/strong> #30 with 33 laps.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our biggest race of the year is coming up in Feb. at the\u00a0U.S.F. Engineering Expo.\u00a0 We will have a display area on February 17th where\u00a0teams can show their\u00a0cars,\u00a0equipment and answer questions.\u00a0 The race is on\u00a0February 18th and has the most challenging course we race on all season.\u00a0 Wheels and tires\u00a0take a beating so now is the time to get everything in top shape.\u00a0 Charge up those batteries and get those tires and wheels ready to go.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More info on U.S.F.
