We held our STEM “Dash” Electrathon Event at Mulberry high School on Saturday, November 15th.<\/p>\n

The primary reason for our dash event is to educate the teams on the difference in battery consumption and gear ratios for 20-minute maximum use vs our regular 60-minute event for distance and not speed. The “Dash” Event also allows teams to test their driver\u2019s ability, the cars performance and gives the HS team sponsors a chance to drive and compete for 20 minutes like their students.<\/p>\n

We thank everyone for their help getting set up before the race and cleaned up after the race.<\/p>\n

We thank Todd Thuma and Mulberry HS Administration for hosting the event so close to another one we had in September.<\/p>\n

It was great seeing Ken Fiallos at this event; we hope to see him at more events.<\/p>\n

We thank Thomas Williams from Right Trailers for joining us at our dash race. They have nice trailers for sale for a reasonable price.<\/p>\n

The teams arrived, got their pit areas set up so Mike Ralph could inspect their car(s).\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>Teams met with Race Steward Mike Frederick for the drivers meeting.\"\"<\/a>We divide the teams for the dash races so that we have safe races for everyone.<\/p>\n

Our first race of the day had only three cars representing the teams for open\/advanced.\"\"<\/a>The green flag dropped and teams found their path on the course.<\/p>\n

The teams did an awesome job; Pro EV car 39 did a 24.382 second lap on the quarter mile track. Tiger Racing car 4 lasted a little over 15 minutes on the older batteries that they were testing (they are getting rid of them). Shark Family car 5 ran well with their new lithium batteries. This car is very quiet and runs well with the wheel hub motor.<\/p>\n

When the checkered flag dropped it was:<\/p>\n

1st Place Pro EV car 39 with 47 laps
\n2nd Place Shark Family car 5 with 44 laps
\n3rd Place Tiger Racing car 4 with 25 laps<\/p>\n

Our second race of the day, high school teams. We had 4 cars line up for the race. Mulberry car 38 entered after the green flag dropped due to chain and gear alignment issues. \"\"<\/a>The drivers did really well in the 20-minute competition.<\/p>\n

When the checkered flag dropped it was:<\/p>\n

\n2nd Place KRAI Power car 555 with 39 laps race time 20.29.921
\n3rd Place Lyman car 12 with 32 laps
\n4th Place Mulberry car 100 with 26 laps
\n5th Place Mulberry car 38 with 5 laps (best lap, 47.001 times 5, equals approx. 3.91 minute’s, not all laps were best lap time)<\/p>\n

In our normal 60-minute race a team must do 10 minutes to place and receive season points, this is 16.67% of the race time. In our 20-minute dash race, a team must still do 16.67% of the race time which equals 3.33 minutes.<\/p>\n

\nOur high school sponsors (3) got a chance to drive their team car and compete against other high school sponsors. There were a few challenges for them, especially getting in and out of the cars. They all did well and must be recognized for getting into the team’s car. It shows how much they trust the car and their students that build\/work on them.\"\"<\/a>When the halfway flags were shown, Lyman HS Sponsor yelled “are you kidding, only halfway”. KRAI Power car 210 had issues with power cutting out but completed the race. <\/p>\n

\n1st Place KRAI Power car 555, Driver David Kocher with 38 laps (best lap 29.694)\"\"<\/a>2nd Place Lyman car 12, Driver David Moye with 37 laps (best lap 31.118) \"\"<\/a>3rd Place KRAI Power car 210, Driver Jerome Mosley with 19 laps (best lap 29.303)\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The next race, our high school teams. There were 5 cars line up for the race.\"\"<\/a>The teams did well, KRAI car 210 had tire issues causing them to slide outwards a little while two other cars were beside them, and all drivers handled the situation very well.<\/p>\n

\n1st Place Lyman car 12 with 37 laps
\n2nd Place KRAI Power car 555 with 36 laps
\n3rd Place Mulberry car 100 with 34 laps
\n4th Place Mulberry car 38 with 32 laps
\n5th Place KRAI Power car 210 with 22 laps<\/p>\n

Our last race of the day, our open\/advanced cars. We had 3 cars line up for the race. \"\"<\/a>When the green flag dropped, they all took off, Pro EV car 39 had the motor lock up, ending their race day. We were hoping to see Cliff beat his first best lap of 24.382. The car decided, not today. UPDATE: Cliff reported that the motor bearings are fine, but some of the magnetics are broken. Possible debris got into the motor that caused the issue. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Tiger Racing, car 4 had a new set of batteries; they did well for the first time in a race. The Shark Family car 5 ran well, the car tires started singing in the turns so they slowed it down a little to prevent any issues.<\/p>\n
