Out of Area Electrathon Races

We contacted the folks in Alabama and found out the Electrathon Races at Barber Motorsports probably will not happen this year.

We contacted the folks in North Florida about the Pensacola, Five Flags Electrathon Races. No decisions have been made on whether the race will happen this year.

We reached out to Chambers County folks about their Electrathon Races and have not heard back from them.

We reached out to Georgia Electrathon about any races they may have this year and have not heard back from them.

Will post any updates we receive on the locations above.

January 9, 2021 Wharton High School

Saturday morning came and there was a fresh cool breeze at Wharton High School as teams arrived. Okay it was downright cold, jackets and gloves were worn and hot coffee consumed to stay warm.

We thank Wharton Electrathon Team Sponsor Chris Hart and his Administration for hosting our first race of 2021.

Drivers were bundled up as Mike Frederick (Race Steward) conducted the drivers meeting

Teams lined up for the first race to begin, as the green flag dropped, teams started their one hour race.

Everything was going well until Fortuna car 444 clipped a cone in one of the turns sending it up onto its side and roll bar before stopping on its side. Plant City High School (PCHS) car 210 was behind them and ran into the curb bending their tire rim.  Both drivers were fine, no injuries other than scratches to roll bar and helmet on the Fortuna car and driver helmet. The bent rim ended the race day for Plant City car 210. The Fortuna car was checked and then got back into the race. A few laps later the Plant City HS Car 208 ended their day after continued issues with throttle and loss of power.

At the end of the first race:
High School Division: PCHS car 210 had completed 22 laps and PCHS car 208 completed 12 laps.

Open Division: Tiger Racing completed 66 laps, Mulberry completed 64 laps, Titans completed 57 laps and Hillsborough Community College completed 47 laps.

Advanced Division: Fortuna completed 42 laps.

Between races everyone went into hibernation to get/stay warm.

Only five cars lined up for the second race.

It was a battle the entire second race between Mulberry and Tiger Racing. Mulberry Driver Todd Thuma stepped up his pace and did the fastest lap for all divisions with a 43.625. The Fortuna team blew a tire and changed it quickly to get back into the race.

At the end of second race:

Open Division Mulberry completed 75 laps, Tiger completed 73 laps, Titans completed 59 laps and HCC completed 45 laps.

Advanced Division Fortuna completed 25 laps.

After the results of both races were calculated and the total race times for teams with same lap totals were figured:

High School Division: Plant City High School Car 210 took 1st Place

Plant City High School Car 208 took 2nd Place

Open Division: Mulberry and Tiger both completed 139 laps so it came down to total race time, Mulberry 1st Place with 119 minutes of race time,

Tiger 2nd Place with 120 minutes of race time

Titans 3rd Place with 116 laps

Hillsborough Community College (HCC) 4th Place with 92 laps

Advanced Division: Fortuna 1st Place with 67 laps

Our next race will be held on February 20th, the location is pending approval. Please continue to check our website or Facebook pages for location.

Electrathon Exclusive Report

Traveling to a private test track deep in the wilds of Davie, Florida, our intrepid reporter managed to get a photograph of ProEV’s new secret weapon.

This, James Lee designed, front suspension features adjustable camber and toe as well as reducing aero drag. The original suspension is rumored to have been destroyed in a massive testing crash.

The ProEV Super Coupe is expected to rejoin the Tampa Bay series at the January 9th race at Wharton High School with ace driver Cliff Rassweiler behind the wheel, (or maybe between the steering levers since technically there is no steering wheel).

You heard it first, here on Electrathon of Tampa Bay

January 9 2021 Wharton High School

Our next race will be held on January 9, 2021 at Wharton High School located at 20150 Bruce B. Downs Blvd, Tampa FL 33647. This will be a road course for our teams and the first race in 2021.

We will do a partial set up on Friday, January 8, 2021 around 430 P.M. and finish the set up the next morning when we arrive around 630 A.M.

Hope to see everyone there to kick off 2021 with a great race.

Lee County Buckingham Field December 6 2020

We had a great race day on Sunday at Buckingham Field in Lee County.

As the teams lined up for the new course at this event, the green flag dropped and the cars started their journey across the 1.748 mile track.

Our new team Fortuna continued to have issues causing the car to drop power sending them in and out of the pits. Team Titans came in hot to our 180 squealing tires and sliding through it.

At the end of the first race our open division teams  did rather well. In the lead with 17 laps and best lap time (212.257) of all cars in race 1, Archer Racing

followed by Titans with 13 laps

Tiger Racing and Mulberry were tied with 12 laps each.

In our Advanced Battery Division, Team Fortuna completed 2 laps and managed to be on the track for over 10 minutes to receive season points.

Between races we noticed one of our folks car had a flat tire on their vehicle and here came the various pit members to the rescue. A big THANKS to everyone that helped especially Mike as he had a tire repair kit. The tire was removed, plugged, inflated and back on the car before the next race.

A few teams made adjustments to their cars between races. As the teams lined up for the second race, you could see the determination in the drivers as the first race was so close.

Archer Racing made a super fast pit to change a tire in the second race causing all of us to say WOW.

Fortuna came up the track towards the scoring tower with a front wheel almost laying on its side. Apparently a nut came off of the front wheel assembly, the pit crew jumped in and made it a quick easy fix and back on the track they went.

Mulberry came into our 180 turn a little fast and wound up outside the track area in the safety zone before returning safely on the track.

The race was so competitive that the teams finished within a lap or two of each other causing the scoring for the day to be determined by the total race times.

At the end of the second race Archer Racing finished with 15 laps and the best lap time in the Open Division of 210.320 followed by Mulberry and Tiger tied with 14 laps and Titans with 13 laps.

Our Advanced Battery Fortuna Team completed 13 laps and the best lap time of the day for any team with 193.671. Towards the end of the second race the Fortuna car pulled quickly into the pits, no vehicle issues could be seen (with 2 minutes to go, and most likely could have finished with 14 laps) the driver had to make a pit stop (restroom) of their own.

At the end of the day the scoring area was busy logging the data and adding up the race times to get the official place for each team.  A very close race as three teams finished the day with a total of 26 laps.

In the Advanced Battery Division it was Team Fortuna, Driver Victoria Hobbs with a total of 15 laps for the day, setting the fastest lap for this new course with a 193.671. In the Open Division, Archer racing, Driver Steve Archer completing 32 laps for 1st Place with a best lap of 210.320. Archer Racing has set the most laps count for this new course with 17 laps in a single race and 32  for a race day. All three of the other Open Division Teams finished the day with 26 total laps sending it down to the total race time to decide. In 2nd Place Team Titans (Driver Brady Weber) had 26 laps with a total of both race times of 115 minutes. Mulberry (Driver Todd Thuma) took 3rd Place with 26 laps and a total of 117 minutes for both race times. Tiger Racing (Driver Rodney Schreck) took 4th Place with 26 laps and a total of 119 minutes for both race times. We took the number of laps for each day to determine our Grand Champion for this two day racing event. Archer Racing had a two day total of 91 laps.

Our next race will be at Wharton High School in Tampa Florida on January 9, 2021. Hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday season.

Lee County Buckingham Field December 5, 2020

We had a great weekend of Electrathon racing in Lee County at Buckingham Field thanks to Jen and her group at Lee County Parks and Recreation.

Saturday morning teams arrived and were ready to race. Teams from as far away as Milton and Hialeah Florida joined us.

Our first race on Saturday went very well. The second race, teams stepped up their pace and challenged each other until the checkered flag dropped.

The Archer , Mulberry and Tiger teams kept it interesting, passing one another throughout the race. The Tiger team got everyone’s attention on the straight away when they kicked up the speed and left others in their mirrors on more than one occasion. Tiger Racing Driver Rodney Schreck stated that he was going over 40mph.

At the end of the day in the Open Division Archer Racing, Driver Steve Archer completed 29 laps in the first race and 30 laps the second race for a 1st place finish with a  117.557 best lap of for the day. Mulberry, Driver Todd Thuma completed 23 laps the first race and 23 laps the second race for a 2nd Place finish with a best lap of 114.141 for the day. Titans Racing, Driver Ryan Norden completed 17 laps the first race and 17 laps the second race for a 3rd Place finish with a best lap of 155.308 for the day. In our Advanced Division it was Tiger Racing, Driver Rodney Schreck completing 13 laps the first race and 24 laps the second race for a 1st Place finish with a best lap of 14.929 for the day. Our teams did not beat the track record of 34 laps in a single race, 65 laps for the two race lap total and best lap of 99.298 set by Pro EV Driver Cliff Rassweiler in November 2019.

Plant City High School November 7 2020

Friday, November 6. 2020, Plant City High School Electrathon Sponsor David Kocher met with Trish, Mike, Rodney and Charlie to set up the course for Saturdays race. The weather was great and there was a little wind. The course measured out to be 1198 feet in distance and only took just over an hour to get set up.

On Saturday morning the final set up was done and the race day began. The winds were stronger causing a challenge for our canopies the entire day.

We thank PCHS Sponsor (David), PCHS Electrathon Team members and all of PCHS Administration for hosting our event.

We missed our teams that were not at the race, (Archer, Brandon, Brooks DeBartolo, Electrocutioners, IWMF, Lennard, Middleton, Palm Bay, Parrish, Plant, Pro EV, Seminole, Simmons, USF, sorry if I left anyone out)

We have a new team, Fortuna (Victoria Hobbs) join the Advanced Battery DivisionAs our Race Steward (Mike Frederick) lined up the cars for the first race, the new team had some electrical issues forcing them to return to the pit area. As the green flag dropped the cars took off for the challenging course with a few sharp turns and a nice straight away.

Team Fortuna worked out their electrical issue and on the track they went. In the first race team Fortuna continued to have issues flare up, normal for a new team on the track. Team Mulberry (driver and sponsor Todd Thuma) blew a tire and had to pit towards the end of the race. The Hillsborough Community College, PCHS and Titan teams ran strong during the race and look impressive. At the end of the first race Plant City High School came in 1st in the High School Division with 79 completed laps, Silver Bullet (Jim Robinson) came in 1st in the Open Division with 85 completed laps and Fortuna (Victoria Hobbs) came in 1st in the Advanced Battery Division with 25 completed laps. Once the electrical issue is figured out, this team will be one to watch.

Our second race lined up and as the green flag dropped we were missing the new team Fortuna, electrical issues continued to challenge their team keeping them in and out of the pits and completing only 9 laps for the entire race. Once again Team Titans (with a PCHS student driver) ran strong and the car did really well. As the PCHS car took the far turn the front wheel decide to pop some spokes and tire sending them into the barrier and done for the day after completing 2 laps. Tiger Racing (Rodney Schreck) had one of his new batteries fail causing him to take it slow and easy so he could finish the race with 66 laps. Mulberry (Todd Thuma) blew another tire and was done for the race day after 66 laps. Silver Bullet (Jim Robinson) had some chain issues sending him to the pit area after 28 laps. This is unusual for him as he normally runs the entire race without any issues. HCC ran well completing 34 laps before their transponder decided to slide back on the roll bar causing us to hand count the last 14 laps of the race. We congratulate the HCC team as they have come a long way with their car. When the second race ended it was team Titans that completed 77 laps for a 1st place finish in the Open Division. High school and Advanced Battery Division cars did not race competitively for a total of 10 minutes during the second race causing them not to receive season points or credit for their laps completed.

At the end of the day, Plant City (High School Division) finished in 1st Place with 79 laps, Fortuna (Advanced Battery Division) finished in 1st Place, with 25 laps. In the Open Division, Titans finished in 1st Place with 158 laps Tiger Racing 2nd Place with 146 laps Mulberry 3rd Place with 132 laps Silver Bullet 4th Place with 113 laps HCC in 5th Place with 97 laps Our next race will be held on December 5th and 6th at Buckingham Field in Lee County. This will be our first two day event with two races being held each day. Trophies will be given out for each day of racing.
