We held our STEM Electrathon Event at the University of Central Florida in conjunction with Energy Whiz on April 20, 2024.

We thank the Florida Solar Energy Center and University of Central Florida for their support.

The teams arrived, registered and got their cars inspected by ETO volunteer Mike Ralph.

We missed our Middleton HS team and Pro EV.

We welcome new teams from University of Central Florida Indiantown High School, Trailblazers Lyman High School We had teams arrive with their new second car, Palm Bay Magnet High School University of South Florida We had a great driver meeting with the teams informing them of track conditions and race guidelines.

We had 15 cars line up for the first race of the day. When the green flag dropped, the teams started their one-hour competition.

The first race of the day did not go well for our new team from the University of Central Florida as their car had issues that ended their race day.

Mulberry HS car 38 had challenges with their rear wheel.

Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation had their battery come loose and slide onto the track.

END OF YEAR BANQUET

Once again our Co-Founder/Race Steward, Mike Frederick has got us our end of the year awards banquet at the American Legion Post 4 (1375 Ariana St, Lakeland, FL 33803).

The banquet will be held right after our May 11, 2024 race at Mulberry High School.

The meal will consist of a steak, shrimp with sides and dessert. Each person will be responsible for their own drink(s).

Attendees must RSVP and pay a $10.00 refundable (at banquet) deposit. RSVP and deposit must be received by April 20, 2024. To RSVP contact Trish at 813 763 2046.

We will be assisting Florida State College in Jacksonville with their second race this year. Anyone under 18 years of age must provide a parent consent, release and waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement/minor’s assumption of risk and release and waiver of liability form to participate. We held our STEM Electrathon “Dash” Event at Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation on March 2, 2024. Our dash race allows drivers to safely test their cars performance/durability for the most laps in 20 minutes.

We thank KRAI Sponsor David Kocher and his Administration for hosting our event.

We thank everyone that arrived early to help with set up.

It was great seeing Ken Fiallos (founder) up and out so early to give us a hand with set up.

The teams arrived and got their cars inspected by our Vice President, Chief Inspector and Co-Founder Jim Truitt.

We missed our Middleton HS team as they had battery and controller issues preventing them from competing.

The first race of the day was our open and advanced cars. We had four cars line up for the competition. During the race, turn two created a challenge for drivers. USF Car 48 hit the curb bending their front tire rim sending them to the pits for this race. Pro EV car 39 had an issue and decided to go straight and through some cones. Thanks Cliff for the video.
FL State College car 904 rolled their car scratching up the roll bar and creating a dancing (wobble) in their front wheel. All drivers were okay due to the great safety guidelines used when the cars are built.

Our second race was our high school teams. We had 4 cars line up as Kirkland car 555 found an issue with their car that prevented them from racing. The race went well, and drivers made it an interesting competition.

Our third race of the day was our high school, college and executive board member’s race. This allows our team sponsors and ETO board members to enjoy the experience of driving an Electrathon.
We had 3 cars line up as our fourth car was found to have a steering issue preventing it from racing. In turn two, lap two, Mulberry High School Sponsor Todd Thuma hit the curb bending the rim and tire under the car, sending him to the pits.

Our 5th and final race of the day was our open and advanced cars. We had 4 cars line up for the race. Pro Ev car 39 did the fastest lap of the day with a 28.054. USF Car 48 came around the last turn and gave the back of the FSCJ car 904 a good tap in the rear end. Pro EV car 39 had the motor seize up after 12 minutes of racing, sending him into a spin and then to the pits. Thanks Cliff for the videos.

We held our STEM Electrathon Event in conjunction with the University of South Florida 2024 Engineering Expo. We thank the University of South Florida for their support again this year.

Teams arrived and got signed in and their cars inspected. The pits were busy with teams making last minute adjustments. Plant City HS brought out their new car 210. We thank the parents, family and friends that come out to support the students and teams. Our Race Steward Mike Frederick met with everyone for the drivers/teams meeting. At the registration area we encountered a challege between two high school rivals that use to race against one another. It was the Simmons team member, Victoria Hobbs challenging Midleton team member Ryan Norden to a competition between their two children when they are old enough to race against one another. This will be an interesting challenge coming to Electrathon in the future as both parents were/are very competitive.

We had twelve cars line up for the first, one hour competition. During the race, a few teams had tire issues and had to change them out to get back into the race. Florida State College at Jacksonville car 904 had their rear wheel come apart ending their race day. Mulberry HS hit the rear of Pro EV, sending Pro EV into a spin out. Both drivers did well and there were no injuries.

We had a great STEM day at the USF Engineering Expo. The high school teams really shined. We had one car from Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation and their trailer, three cars from Middleton and their solar trailer, two cars from Mulberry and two cars from Plant City. size-full wp-image-6949″ /> size-full wp-image-6948″ /> Our teams will be competing on Saturday, February 10th in two one-hour endurance races.

The first race starts at 10am and ends at 11am. The second race starts at 1pm and end at 2pm.

On Saturday, January 27th we assisted Florida State College at Jacksonville with their first Electrathon race. We thank FSCJ Electrathon Team Sponsor Robert Wechsler, his team, volunteers and FSCJ Administration for inviting us to their event. We arrived early on Saturday to finish with the event set up. As teams arrived and got situated in the pits, the inspection team started the car inspections. We welcome new team Augusta Prep car 1324 from Georgia. We welcome new team Fairhope HS car 1 from Alabama. We welcome new team Electrathon Parts car 654 from Milton Florida. Our drivers meeting went well with the teams, they were informed of track conditions, broke down car procedures and instructed on the race flags. We had 10 cars line up for our first 1-hour competition. Dr. Doug Brauer Dean of Industry and Engineering at FSCJ dropped the green flag, starting the race. As the teams went into turn one, Fairhope car 1 had a steering issue that caused them to leave the track and into the grass sidelines (driver did well and there were no injuries). The teams worked out little car issues during the race.

We had 9 cars line up for our second 1-hour competition. RYNO car 360 was driven the second race by a student from Nease HS as their car could not make the race.

When the green flag dropped, the teams were driving with more skill and higher speeds as they made adjustments on their cars between races.

Kirkland Ranch car 555 did a 52.248 lap beating all others the entire day. Pro EV car 39 (advanced batteries) and Electrathon Parts car 654 (lead acid batteries), stayed neck and neck with each of them taking the lead at times during the race. Both cars performed extremely well and put on a good show for everyone.
